The Pink Ladies come to Birmingham!

Secret Cinema brought its first taste of Summer Lovin’ to the NEC as the Pink Ladies arrived in style to celebrate tickets going on sale for ‘GREASE: The Live Experience’.

Secret Cinema will be heading to the Midlands for the first time in July, with the event forming part of the venue’s wider diversification strategy, exploring new event formats and opportunities that take advantage of the versatile NEC Campus especially during periods which are traditionally quieter for exhibitions.

On the event, Richard Mann, New Business Director at the NEC, said: "We’re fantastically excited to be hosting Secret Cinema. The NEC Campus is so versatile and we think it’s going to be a perfect demonstration of what you can do indoors and outdoors on site.

“For a few years now we’ve been working on bringing different types of content to the venue, primarily during periods of the year where we aren’t as busy with our core business - trade and consumer exhibitions. Post-pandemic, we wanted to try out different event formats and bring new audiences to our campus, spotting gaps in the market.

“Secret Cinema fits perfectly with that. They’re going to be running an amazing, immersive experience outdoors on our campus, recreating 1959 right here at the NEC. We hope it will bring many more people to our region and city.

“Looking ahead, long-stay events are a big part of our strategy. We’re going to be bringing many more diverse pieces of content to our venue, building on the experience of hosting Wireless Festival last summer. Secret Cinema is part of this, bringing more and more diverse and entertaining pieces of content to the NEC.”

The event is expected to take creative use of the NEC campus to new heights, with Marah Stafford, Secret Cinema’s Creative Director, commenting: “This is not your traditional theatre show! Visitors will be up on their feet, singing and dancing, and they can expect to step inside the story of Grease. We will build Rydell High school at the NEC – and what would be better than this location for an outdoor summer festival show.”

‘GREASE: The Live Experience’ will run from 26th July to 13th August 2023, with tickets available from Friday 5th May: https://bit.ly/3A5QvGW
